About Su Bisu

Su Bisu, Sardinian for “the dream.”

Su Bisu is more than a name. It is a family dream shaped over decades, rooted in a love of Sardinia, and brought to life as a quiet hilltop place among olive trees, open land, and wide views to the sea.

The dream behind the name

For our family, Su Bisu speaks to a long-held dream of space, calm, and life close to the land. It is the idea of a hilltop place where family gathers, the sea stays in sight, and the rhythm of the day slows down.

Our story

1968199820032010Today

The story of Su Bisu begins in 1968, when Tony first came to Sardinia during military service. While he was here, he bought a small piece of land for 100 lire, imagining that one day he might return and plant something of his own. Life moved on, he was transferred, and the land was eventually sold, but the idea of Sardinia never left him.

In 1998, Tony returned with Carmen and the family to look for one of his former military colleagues. That journey brought them all back to the island together, and they fell in love with it. For Carmen especially, Sardinia stayed in her mind long after they left.

In 2003, they returned again, this time with the intention of finding a place of their own. Then in 2010, after years of looking, they found the land that would become Su Bisu.

What began with one visit in 1968 became, over time, a family dream carried across decades and finally rooted here on this hill above the sea.

Space, privacy, and quiet

We never wanted to create a place where guests live wall to wall, balcony to balcony, with noise, traffic, and no real sense of privacy.

So instead of building for density, we chose to give each stay its own place in the landscape. Each one has its own garden, its own outdoor rhythm, and its own sense of calm. There is room to read, rest, cook, look out, and simply be.

For us, luxury here is simple: silence, space, freedom, and the feeling of being properly away.

A slower rhythm

A good stay here begins quietly. Birds in the morning. Church bells in the distance. Wind moving through the leaves. In summer, the sound of cicadas in the afternoon.

After rain, the air carries myrtle, cistus, lavender, and warm earth. You are close to beaches, boats, and village life, but you return to something different: not noise, but stillness.

Caring for the land

Su Bisu is also shaped by how we care for the land around it. We avoid preservatives and intensive treatments in the olive groves, keeping the approach as natural as possible.

Around 250 olive trees have been planted here, linking the landscape to our Tuscan roots while helping define the character of the property today.

We are also working to reduce pressure on local resources through solar energy, careful water use, natural plant-based water filtration, and meticulous recycling. On an island where water and energy matter, these choices are part of how we think about hospitality.

Rooted in place

Even small details matter to us. When we barbecue, we use local ginestra wood to flavour the fire in a way that belongs to this landscape. It is a simple gesture, but it reflects how we think about the place: not staged, but lived.

Tony and Carmen

Today, Tony and Carmen continue to care for Su Bisu with the same values that shaped it from the beginning: warmth, privacy, simplicity, and respect for the landscape.

Their approach to hosting is personal but never intrusive, giving guests the freedom to enjoy Sardinia at their own pace while feeling looked after when it matters.

Stay the quieter side of Sardinia

Su Bisu is for guests who want Sardinia with more space, more quiet, and a stronger sense of place. Close to the coast, but away from the crowd.
